Largest Honey Bee:
The largest honey bee of the World is Apis dorsata laboriosa, which is the Himalayan honey bee. Mature ones can measure up to 3 cm which is 1.2 inches in length. Some consider it as a specie but some as a subspecies of a giant bee, Apis dorsata. The largest bee is restricted to the Himalayas only. Up to the present it has only been recognized in the mountainous sections of Bhutan, Chinese province of Yunnan, India and Nepal. It mostly roosts at altitudes between 2,500 and 3,000 meters which is 8,200 and 9,800 feet. World's largest honey bee's one nest can have 60 kg that is 130 lb of honey. Bees hunt at altitudes of up to 4,100 m that is 13,500 ft. Because of its strange nesting conduct, this largest honey bee is also assigned to as Himalayan cliff honey bee.
